Prohair Iceland

Hair transplant & consultation

We guide you through a safe, professional journey — from a 30-minute consultation in Iceland to treatment in Budapest and structured follow-up. The goal is a natural hairline and a result that fits your daily life.

Key benefits

Extensive experience

Careful assessment and a plan designed for a natural hairline and realistic expectations.

FUE — precise extraction

FUE uses a small circular punch (0.8–1.0 mm) to extract individual follicles from donor areas resistant to hair loss, then transplant them into thinning areas.

Clear scope and cost context

Because FUE is meticulous, a physician typically transplants around 1,000–1,500 follicles per day. Cost per follicle is often higher than FUT, where a donor strip is dissected under a microscope.

Travel-ready planning and follow-up

Treatment takes place in Budapest (procedure typically 1–2 days), with the overall trip commonly 3–4 days. You receive structured aftercare and follow-up.

FAQ

What is FUE, and how is it different from FUT?
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a method of harvesting donor hair for follicular unit transplantation (FUT), where individual follicular units are extracted directly from the donor area without making a linear incision. Using the FUE technique, a small circular punch (0.8–1.0 mm) is used to create a precise circular incision in the skin around the upper part of the follicular unit, which is then removed directly from the scalp. Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) are sometimes incorrectly described as two completely different hair transplant methods. In reality, FUE is a sub-type of FUT, with the primary difference being how the follicular units are harvested — either by strip excision and microscopic dissection (FUT) or by direct extraction from the scalp (FUE). The implantation process in the recipient area is essentially the same in both methods. The main advantage of FUE is that it does not leave a linear scar. This makes it particularly suitable for patients who wish to wear their hair very short in the future.
How many grafts can be transplanted in one day?
With the FUE technique, a physician typically transplants around 1,000–1,500 follicular units in a single day. Because the procedure is time-consuming and requires a high level of precision, the cost per unit is generally higher than with traditional FUT, where a donor strip is removed from the back of the scalp and the units are dissected under a microscope.
Who is behind Prohair Iceland, and what makes the company unique?
Prohair Iceland is a specialised hair transplant company owned by Lára Kristjánsdóttir. It is the only company of its kind in Iceland offering a structured and professional process where consultations take place locally in Iceland while treatment is performed abroad by a highly specialised physician. Prohair Iceland works closely with Dr. Thomas Mantse in Budapest, a Canadian doctor with more than 30 years of experience in hair transplant surgery. Dr. Mantse specialises in modern, precise hair transplant techniques with a strong focus on natural-looking results, patient safety, and fast recovery. The process begins with a personal consultation in Iceland, during which hair condition, expectations, and treatment options are carefully reviewed. The procedure itself is then carried out in Budapest under the supervision of Dr. Mantse and his experienced medical team. Key advantages of the treatment include minimal to no discomfort during or after the procedure, exceptionally fast healing, and the ability for most patients to return to work the very next day. Prohair Iceland’s goal is to provide a professional, safe, and personalised solution for individuals seeking a long-term answer to hair loss.
